Randolph County Wreck Claims Two Lives

north carolina mountain rangeTwo accidents occurred on Asheboro Road on Saturday night. The two back-to-back crashes claimed the lives of two individuals.

David Smith III, 31, and Kimberly Rule, 47, both died instantly when their vehicles hit one another in a head-on-collision.

According to the N.C. Highway Patrol, Smith’s vehicle collided with Rule’s while heading east on Highway 64 West. Smith crossed the centerline around 8:40 p.m. He was driving a Jeep Cherokee when he collided with Rule’s Ford F 150.

Emergency officials responded to the scene and found that Smith’s passenger was seriously injured. The 20-year-old unnamed passenger was airlifted to the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. She is listed in critical condition.

Investigators are still identifying the exact cause of the crash. They have however, ruled out alcohol, cell phone use and speeding as factors in the crash.

One of the most difficult things for a family to hear is that they have lost a loved one in a sudden and tragic accident. Our deepest sympathies go out to the Rule and Smith families.
