A fatal wreck on Interstate 40 on Sunday, July 12, involved an alleged wrong-way driver. At approximately 3:20 a.m., dispatchers sent troopers to the scene of a two-vehicle accident on I-40 near Peters Creek Parkway.

SUV and Car Collide

A preliminary investigation suggested that a Honda CRV traveled in the wrong direction in the westbound lanes of the interstate before it collided head-on with a Honda Accord. There were three people in the Accord at the time. The driver of the Honda sport-utility vehicle was alone in the vehicle at impact.

Two Injured, Two Killed

Emergency personnel transported the two passengers that were in the Accord to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. The authorities stated that both suffered serious injuries. Neither motorist survived, and both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Speed and Alcohol Alleged Factors

According to WXII, troopers believe that both alcohol and excessive speed factored into the incident. The interstate did not fully re-open until approximately 8:30 a.m.

Although the investigation into this crash is ongoing, North Carolina state allow allows those that are victims of traffic accidents to seek compensation in certain cases.
