The Dangers of Faulty Airbags

According to Nissan, the affected vehicles’ computer software may not detect an adult in the passenger seat which could lead to the failure of airbag deployment. During an accident, if an airbag does not deploy the passenger is at an increased risk of suffering non-fatal or fatal injuries.

Did Nissan Know About the Airbags?

In 2013, more than 82,000 Nissan vehicles were recalled because of a similar issue. Although the defective parts were replaced, the auto manufacturer continued to receive complaints from consumers, even in vehicles that had been repaired. According to documents on file with the NHTSA, there have been approximately three accidents in which the airbags failed to deploy.

Nissan will be notifying affected vehicle owners around mid-April and will repair the software free of charge. Approximately 989,707 of the affected vehicles were sold in the U.S.
