We urge you to contact our Mirena lawyers as soon as possible to see how we may be able to help you with your claim.

The Mirena IUD was first approved for use as an intrauterine contraceptive but was later approved as a treatment for heavy menstrual bleeding in women who had natural births.
Mirena works by slowly releasing progestogen levonorgestrel into the uterus, working as intrauterine contraception for up to 5 years. Once the 5 years has been completed, the system needs to be replaced if continued contraception is desired.
Mirena is only recommended for use by women who have had at least one child.

Marketing of Mirena IUD
Bayer marketed Mirena as a way for busy moms to simplify their lifestyle. Bayer created a direct marketing program called “Mirena Parties” in which a serious of house parties were hosted by members of the social networking site, Mom Central. The parties were hosted in a consumer’s home or another private settling by a representative from Mom Central and a nurse practitioner.
The script supplied to the nurse hosting a Mirena Party included phrases like “look and feel great,” “simple ways to reconnect with ourselves and our partners,” and “more likely to be more intimate.”
In December 2009, the FDA issued a warning letter to Bayer which stated that the claims made in the script “clearly indicated that the use of Mirena instead of other means of contraception will result in increased levels of intimacy, romance, and by implication, emotional satisfaction.
The warning went on to say that the FDA was “not aware of any evidence suggesting that women who are using Mirena for birth control look great or feel great,” and that the script minimized the risks of using the product. The script also falsely claimed that Mirena did not have any “daily, weekly, or monthly routines to comply with.”
Bayer stopped holding Mirena Parties in 2009.
