Local Dump Truck Accident Wrecks Morning Commute

dump-truck-in-a-ditchA local accident in Winston-Salem, North Carolina involved at least four vehicles during the early morning commute on April 22. The four-car wreck occurred on Interstate 40 near U.S. 52.

The first responders on the scene were members of the Forsyth Emergency Services. Witnesses reported that dump truck overturned and began to leak fuel while trapping one person.

Fortunately, emergency personnel were able to pull the individual out who was then later transported to a local hospital for treatment. At least one other person injured in the accident was also treated at an area hospital.

Traffic was significantly backed up during the morning commute as emergency crews tried to remove the overturned dump truck. Hours later, a tow vehicle was arranged to remove the dump truck from the highway.

Many commercial dump trucks can weigh more than 65,000 lbs when they are fully loaded. Construction crews often use them to move sand, asphalt and other materials to and from construction locations.
